Jaggery

Jaggery/Gud is a traditional non-centrifugal cane sugar consumed in our country. It is a concentrated product of cane juice and often date or palm sap (see: palm sugar) without separation of the molasses and crystals, and can vary from golden brown to dark brown in colour. Jaggery is surprisingly effective as an aid for weight loss. This is because jaggery is a rich source of potassium, which is a mineral that helps in the balance of electrolytes as well as building muscles and boosting metabolism Jaggery is a great substitute for processed white sugar. Jaggery is sweeter yet holds the health benefits therefore can be used as a substitute in many recipes. Also you need to use 1.5 times white sugar to achieve the same sweetness so the daily recommended intake level of sugary substances is also reduced adding to other health benefits of jaggery
